Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Capyread (卡皮阅读, "we", "us", or "our") handles personal information when you visit our website, use our reading service, or contact us. Capyread supports language learning through articles, translations, and reading assistance. For privacy questions or requests, contact support@capyread.com.
1. Information we collect
- Account information: your email address, display name, profile image, verification status, and account identifiers. For password accounts, we store a password hash rather than your readable password. If you sign in with Google, we receive the basic profile and email information you authorize Google to share, together with information needed to maintain that sign-in connection.
- Reading information: your language level, interests, publication subscriptions, reading preferences, article history, progress, and activity statistics. This supports personalized assistance and continuing where you left off.
- Technical information: session identifiers, IP addresses, browser or device information, request details, and diagnostic or security logs generated when you use the service.
- Support communications: your email address and the messages, attachments, or other information you choose to send us. Please do not send passwords, verification codes, or unnecessary sensitive information.
2. How we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts, authenticate users, deliver reading features, personalize assistance, synchronize preferences and progress, send account-related emails, and respond to support requests. We also use it to investigate errors, prevent abuse, maintain reliability, and meet applicable legal obligations.
Where applicable law requires consent for a particular use, we will seek that consent. Other processing may be necessary to provide the service you request or comply with legal obligations. This policy does not itself authorize unrelated uses of your information.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies and similar browser storage support sign-in, security, language preferences, and your cookie choices. You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent account features from working correctly.
The website currently does not load a third-party analytics script. If optional analytics or other non-essential tracking is introduced, we will update the relevant notice and obtain consent where required. Declining optional cookies does not prevent you from browsing public pages.
4. AI-powered reading assistance
We use third-party AI services to generate article metadata, translations, and vocabulary or sentence explanations. Requests contain article text, instructions, the target language, and, where relevant, a language-level category. Account passwords and authentication credentials are not included in these generation prompts.
Translations may be reused for the same article, and explanations may be cached by language level. Shared results do not display your personal reading history to other readers. To troubleshoot and assess quality, we retain generation inputs, outputs, errors, validation results, and timing information in private operational logs, with credentials and configured secrets redacted. These logs can contain article and generated content; removing credentials does not make all content anonymous.
5. Service providers and disclosures
We use providers for hosting, databases, content storage and delivery, authentication, email delivery, and AI generation. They may process information as needed to support the service. Current integrations include Google for optional sign-in, Resend for account emails, and DeepSeek and Zhipu AI for article generation. Providers may also process technical information associated with requests to their services.
We may disclose information when required by applicable law or a valid legal request, or where necessary and lawful to protect users, prevent fraud, or defend legal rights. If a business transfer affects your information, we will provide any notice or choice required by law.
External publishers and other websites have their own privacy practices. Visiting an original article or another external link is subject to that website's policy. Providers may process information outside your country; applicable notice, consent, and other transfer requirements must be met where relevant.
6. Retention and security
Account and reading information is retained for as long as needed to provide the service and for applicable security, dispute-resolution, or legal purposes. Support records and operational logs have retention needs that depend on their purpose. Generation logs currently have no automatic deletion schedule; retention and cleanup are managed operationally. Backups may retain information beyond its removal from active systems.
We use access controls, credential protection, and other technical and organizational measures to protect information. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Protect your account credentials and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.
7. Your choices and requests
You can review and update supported profile and reading settings within your account. Depending on applicable law, you may also request access to, a copy of, correction of, or deletion of your personal information; withdraw consent; or object to or restrict certain processing.
Send requests to support@capyread.com, preferably from your account email address. We may need to verify your identity. We will respond in accordance with applicable law and explain any lawful reason why a request cannot be fulfilled in full. Withdrawing consent does not affect prior lawful processing. Deleting information necessary for an account may prevent us from continuing to provide account features.
8. Minors
If you are a minor, use the service with the involvement of a parent or guardian where required by applicable law. If you believe a child's personal information has been provided without required authorization, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
9. Updates and contact
We may update this policy as the service or our practices change. The date above identifies the latest version. We will provide additional notice and obtain consent for changes where required by law.
For privacy matters, account requests, or questions about this policy, email support@capyread.com. General help is also available on our Contact / Support page.
